Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cookies are so soft and chewy.   There is nothing that compares to a good old fashioned Applesauce Cookie. My oldest sister gave me the recipe for this applesauce chocolate chip cookie when I first got married. That was a long time ago.

I never used it until one day I decided that I liked her applesauce chocolate chip cookies so much, that I would try making some. My kids really enjoyed them and I put half of them in the freezer. They are soft enough, you can eat them right out of the freezer.

It is nice to have a change from the regular chocolate chip cookie and you do not have to feel as guilty because you know that applesauce is good for you. Then you also have some oatmeal and if you wanted, you could also add some walnuts or pecans.

Some of the good old recipes just can’t be beat.  Maybe they will bring some memories back for you, like they do for us. My most vivid memories of applesauce chocolate chip cookies are times spent with my oldest niece and nephews.

My oldest sister makes the best applesauce cookies. She always had some at her home when I went to visit or play with her children. I am the youngest of 8 children and my oldest sister is 17 years older than me. Her oldest daughter (my oldest niece) is only 4 years younger than I am, so we played together a lot.

She also had 3 younger boys. I got to go stay with my oldest sister and her family quite a bit. It is interesting how my memories are different than my children’s memories. I’m glad that I have been able to give them (and their friends) happy memories.

Tips and Tricks For Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cookies:

  • Make sure that you do not over bake them. Remember they are a softer cookie so when the edges start to turn brown they are done baking or very close.
  • You can use butter in place of the shortening.
  • We also love cinnamon chips in applesauce chocolate chip cookies.
  • Freeze half the batch so that you will have some for later.

I heard a speech today about how to raise your children. I do wish that I could go back and do things a little differently. A couple of ideas that I received from this talk was that when you marry someone, you come with different ideas on how to raise kids.

One part is raised with your parents ideas and the other is raised with your spouse’s parent’s ideas. The best way to figure things out is to sit down together and write down the things that worked for you and the things that worked for your spouse.

Then you can come together and write down how you will react when certain situations happy, and how you will handle them. That way if one of you forgets or is too soft when it comes to a situation, the other spouse can remind you, (not in front of the kids, what the agreement was)!

Can I Freeze Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cookies?

  • Yes, Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cookies freeze very well.
  • Just place them in an airtight container and place them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

You will have it on the paper and you will gently remind each other what you agreed to. I thought that this was a great idea. And another thing was that when one of your kids comes to you and says, ” hey mom, dad won’t let me do this, what do you say”? You need to remember that you and the other parent are on the same team and that you will lose the other person’s trust and it will eventually make you lose the trust of your child.

I was grateful for this great idea, I just wish that I would have had this info 30 years ago. Oh well, now that I am a grandma, my husband says that when it comes to grand kids that their are no rules. I say the only rules are the ones that grandma says! Don’t you agree.

One rule for sure is to make some applesauce chocolate chip cookies for your wonderful grand kids. That way, you will be the favorite grandma and your grand kids will love you so much, you will not have to make any rules. Let them eat as many cookies as they want as long as long as they are not spending the night at grandma’s.

Go make some new memories for your children or grandchildren with these applesauce chocolate chip cookies! xoxo
