Tips and Tricks For Chocolate Cowboy Hats:
- The recipe calls for licorice ropes to represent the ribbon around on the hat, but you can use any candy that you think would work.
- I used some fruit roll strips that worked nicely.
- Decorate the hats with more candy for a fancier look.
- You can use any potato chips that you want, but Pringles are more uniform.
- You could use a chocolate covered marshmallow instead of a Rolo candy.
- Chips could also be dipped in white chocolate for a white hat.
- Chips could also be used without dipping into any chocolate, giving hats more of a straw hat look.

how do you make the licorice stick together at the back of the rollo?
I put a little dab of warm chocolate with a tooth pick. Great question, thank you for asking! Have a wonderful day:)
How far in advance can you make them and how do you store them?
I think you can make them up to 6 or 7 days ahead of time. I would say a week at room temperature and about 2 weeks stored in the refrigerator. Thank you for the great question!:)
Can I make these on a Friday for a Saturday event? How soon ahead of an event can they be made and what storage process do you recommend?
You can make them 2 days ahead and store them on the counter. The best way to store them is in an airtight container, in a cool dry place. They will store great in the refrigerator, without the candy for the rim on them. I hope they turn out great!!:)
What kind of chocolate? I tried chocolate dippers but they don’t harden, In fact it sat overnight and didn’t harden.
If your chocolate hasn’t set, there are a few reasons why this could be. It could be that your room temperature is too high. If the temperature is over 68 F, that could be part of the problem.
I use chocolate chips or Almond Bark or very thick fudge sauce. I guess you could you could also try frosting. I hope this helps. Thanks so much!!
How do u make the chocolate thin enough to dip and it runs off?
You can use dipping chocolate and melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl using 30 second intervals. I have also used chocolate chips before and sometimes I add just a little avocado oil or coconut oil. I use a fork and tap the extra chocolate off the Pringle, the chocolate drips down through the fork. Then allow the hats to set up in a cool place, like the refrigerator. I also put the Rolo on before the chocolate sets up. I hope this helps. 🙂
