Amazing Pumpkin Pie will be your new favorite pumpkin pie. We love pumpkin and this pie is really exceptional.

I have always had a hard time making crust, so don’t tell anyone, but the crust on this pie wasn’t the best because I purchased it from the store. It was one of those that you just buy in the freezer section. However, I do feel that since the pie filling in this pie is so exceptional, it deserves an exceptional pie crust, and I am going to make my crust for my Thanksgiving Amazing Pumpkin Pie. It will be perfect for Thanksgiving.

What Ingredients Do I Need For Amazing Pumpkin Pie?

  • Pumpkin puree
  • Egg yolks
  • Egg
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground ginger
  • Salt
  • Chinese 5-spice powder
  • Unbaked pie crust

 

 

How Do I Make Amazing Pumpkin Pie?

 

Here’s the simple steps you’ll follow to make this pie (scroll down for the full recipe):

 

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Whisk together pumpkin puree, egg yolks, and egg in a large bowl.
  • Add sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon, ginger, salt, and Chinese 5-spice powder and mix.
  • Place the filling into a 9″ unbaked pie shell and tap the sides of the pie plate a few times to eliminate any bubbles.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake until the middle of the pie is cooked through.
  • Insert a thin knife and if it comes out clean, then the pie is done.
  • Allow the pie to cool completely before serving.
  • Store any left overs in the refrigerator.
  • Top with ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.

The above picture I tested with a knife, and it made a large separation, so the next time I made the pie, I used a cake tester to see if the pie was done, and it made for a prettier pie.

What Spices Are In Chinese Five-Spice Powder?

 

The most common ingredients are:

  • Star Anise
  • Fennel Seeds
  • Szechuan Peppercorns (or regular peppercorns)
  • Whole Cloves
  • Cinnamon Stick

 

However, the ingredients and amount of spices vary from region to region and even from household to household depending on personal tastes and preference. Feel free to tweak the Chinese Five-Spice Powder based on your own preference. You can buy Chinese Five-Spice Powder on line or make your own. I made my own because the recipe doesn’t call for a lot.

 

How Do You Make Chinese-Five Spice Powder?

 

  • Place all the spices in a spice or coffee grinder and grind until smooth.
  • Or you can toast the spices first if you want to take the time – it will elevate the flavor, but this is not necessary.
  • Place in an airtight spice jar to store.

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chinese 5-spice powder
  • 1 (9") unbaked pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Whisk together pumpkin puree, egg yolks, and egg in a large bowl until smooth.
  3. Add sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon, ginger, salt, and Chinese 5-spice powder; mix until very well combined.
  4. Place the filling into a 9" unbaked pie shell and tap the sides of the pie plate a few times to eliminate any bubbles.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake until the middle of the pie is cooked through; about 30-40 minutes.
  6. Insert a thin knife and if it comes out clean, then the pie is done.
