Can Shepherd’s Ground Beef Pie Be Made Ahead?

  • Yes, Shepherd’s Pie can be made ahead. Since there are a few steps to making this meal, you can make the whole meal ahead, or just parts of the meal. You can prepare the meat mixture ahead, the mashed potatoes mixture ahead, or the whole casserole.
  • If you make the whole casserole ahead, cover the dish, and refrigerate it until you are ready to bake it. It is best to bake it within 3 days of preparing it. When you are ready to bake it, take it out of the refrigerator for about 20 minutes before to let it start coming to room temperature.  Then, uncover it, and bake.
